Changes in smoking behaviour among healthcare workers with COVID-19

Introduction The COVID-19 pandemic had a considerable psychosocial impact on healthcare workers (HCWs) who were constantly requested during this era with an increased risk of infection. This implies behavioural changes, especially in smoking behaviour. Objectives To study behaviour HCWs COVID-19. Methods A cross-sectional descriptive conducted the department occupational pathology Charles Nicolle Hospital Tunis involving affected by period from September 1, 2020, to February 28, 2021. data collection was carried out telephone call using standardized questionnaire. Results During period, 61 identified. Thirty-two patients agreed answer questionnaire, response rate 52%. mean age 41±10 years. sex ratio (M/F) 1.46. Half participants comorbidities. most represented categories blue-collar (n=11) followed nurses (n=10) and physicians (n=7). median professional seniority 13 [3.5; 20] initiation 20±5 common mode cigarettes (93%) average consumption 19 per day. Water pipe noted 3 patients. All started before Strong tobacco dependence 25% Twenty-one cent population moderate dependence. maintained same level as An increase 34% decrease reported 15% respondents. Four stopped after reasons for cessation damage (n=3) confinement family (n=1).
